Forword

Dear Divine Brothers and Sisters of the Universe,

Welcome to the 34th edition of the Sunyoga Newsletter, released May 1, 2025. This issue features heartfelt testimonials, insightful reflections, and inspiring events. We are thrilled to see our community growing, from the Acupressure and Sunyoga course in Mumbai to the Sunyoga workshops in Palampur, Uttarkashi and Nellore. Swamiji’s messages on Sangeet and Asana remind us that life is a sacred practice, guiding us toward stillness and cosmic harmony. The poetic allegory of the “Five Brothers of the Outer World” and the “Inner Garden” encourages us to cultivate our inner Pandavas—Patience, Punctuality, Perfection, Purification, and Pleasantness—to guard the light of our souls.

Acupressure course 1-5 April Mumbai

By Tiyasa Sardar

Om Anand Om. From April 1st to 5th, Meena Ma organised a beginner’s course on acupressure and Surya Yoga at the Kopoli Gaganagiri Ashram in Mumbai. Under the guidance of Swamiji Umasankar, I attended this course as an assistant to Swamiji and as a student. What I learned about acupressure and Surya Yoga is significant, but what I gained from attending this course goes beyond anything material. No worldly wealth or priceless possessions could ever equal what I, an extremely small, unskilled, unknown, and insignificant girl, have received. If the name of Swamiji Umashankarji Maharaj and the Universal Peace Centre were removed from my identity, I would feel invisible. Words cannot fully capture the blessings the Divine has bestowed upon me.

Swamiji often recounts a popular story about a little boy, his mother, a shopkeeper, and sweets. Today, by the grace of Babaji, Swamiji, and my birth parents, I have come to understand the essence of that story. The depth of what I have received cannot be entirely conveyed through writing or speech. I must especially mention two individuals without whom this message would lack meaning: Meena Ma and Uncle Bindal. Without their care and protection during my first trip to Mumbai, my experience would have been far from smooth. Their boundless affection is incomparable. Simply saying “thank you” feels inadequate, and I never want to diminish their love. Ma and Kaka, I offer you countless pranams. I acknowledge my inexperience and that I may have unintentionally caused you harm at times—please forgive me.

Axel Johannson was the person I bothered the most during the course, whether for essential or trivial reasons. Despite the hard work required each day, the time constraints, and sometimes unwarranted interruptions, he assisted me every single day, serving as an essential guide. Any expression of gratitude I offer would fall short. Thanks to him, this journey was made beautiful and convenient—my heartfelt thanks to him.

I would also like to thank our new volunteer team: Rishabh Bhaiya, Prapti Ma, and Ashna Ma. They have honoured our work, embraced it, and taken the initiative to fulfil their responsibilities. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the parents of these virtuous children.

Lastly, we express infinite gratitude to every attendee of the course—our new family members. Without their cooperation, this workshop would not have been successful—many, many thanks to all of you. We pray for everyone’s ultimate success—a peaceful, blissful, healthy, and loving life illuminated by the light of wisdom.

Om Anand Om.

Sunyoga Basic Course Palampur, Himachal Pradesh

By Leela Ma

Recently, I participated in a three-day Surya Yoga workshop held from April 11 to 13 at the Mahavatar Babaji Ashram in Palampur, conducted by Sunyogi Umasankar ji. The essence of this workshop involved watching the sun while forming a 90-degree angle, focusing my gaze on the obedience chakra, and channeling energy from the sun to every cell of my body through the pineal gland, as taught by Surya Yogi Umasankar ji.

palampur-ad-2025

One by one, participants learned this art and understood its entire science. It was an excellent workshop. Initially, we were all quite fearful of looking at the sun around 9-10 AM, but Guruji taught each person this technique individually. By the end of the course, I felt capable and comfortable continuously gazing at the sun for 30-35 minutes.

Palampur-sunyoga-2025

Describing Surya Yogi Umasankar ji is akin to showing a lamp to the sun. Therefore, I encourage you to research him in detail through YouTube and Google. My purpose in writing this post is to inform fellow seekers in the spiritual realm that this practice can significantly enhance our meditation and help us remain disease-free.

pahar-palampur-2025

I urge all my seeker friends to take this course. I am confident that anyone who practices this meditation will benefit from the sun’s energy on both physical and subtle levels. I highly recommend participating in this three-day course. You can visit sunyoga.org for information about upcoming course dates, and you can also find videos on YouTube.

I hope all my seeker friends will benefit from learning this technique. Love and greetings to all.

Successful Completion of Sunyoga Introductory Class in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh

By Suresh Kumar

🙏🌹🕉 Sri Gurubhyo Namaha.

We are delighted to share that, thanks to the boundless blessings of our Poojya Gurudev Sri Umashankar Babaji, a Sunyoga introductory class (Level 1) was successfully conducted in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, from April 22 to 24, 2025, by Suresh Kumar.

Nellore-2025

The introductory Sunyoga class was scheduled from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM each day. However, with deep interest and devotion from the participants, the sessions often extended by 1–2 hours, focusing intensely on both theory and practical applications. Special emphasis was placed on practical training to prepare students mentally and physically for Gurudev’s Basic Course (Level 1-3), planned for January 2026.

A total of 20 members, including small children, participated in the Sunyoga class, experiencing a profound new connection with the Sun. This was just a traditional class, but a transformative experience that moved them beyond the conventional view of the Sun as a distant deity, towards a living, conscious relationship with the Sun, as taught by our beloved Gurudev.

group-nellore-2025

Upon completing the course, participants expressed a desire for additional classes in various areas. Although no fees were fixed for this non-residential, introductory course, participants offered voluntary contributions as a form of Gurudakshina. We are deeply grateful for their generosity.

🙏🌹🕉 We humbly seek Gurudev’s blessings for the successful conduct of the future Basic and Advanced Classes, which we are eagerly looking forward to.
Om Anand Om. 🌹🙏🕉

🌺 Sangeet and the Journey of Life 🌺

A Message from Swamiji Sunyogi Umasankar

Music (Sangeet) is not merely an art form — it is a sacred sadhana, deeply woven into the essence of human existence. The journey of music mirrors the cycle of life, from creation to dissolution and, ultimately, union with the cosmic source.

🕉️ The Five Divine Stages of Sangeet and Life:

1. Alap – Like the silent vibration within a black hole before creation, Alap prepares the atmosphere for life.
2. Sthayi – The beginning of life, forming identity in the mother’s womb — the recurring core of our being.
3. Antara – Symbolising the transition from childhood to youth (Brahmacharya), it represents living in the vibrant present moment.
4. Sanchari – From marriage to the final stages of life (Grihastha, Vanaprastha, Sannyasa), this is our expansion — the expression of life’s full potential.
5. Evoke – After death, the soul returns to its source — a final merging with cosmic consciousness, completing the eternal cycle.

🎵 Sangeet is not just a song — it is the story of our soul. It begins in divine silence, flows through life’s melody, and ends in the harmony of reunion with the infinite.

May each of us experience a peaceful, blissful, healthy, and enlightened life.

Om Anand Om 🙏

Asana: A Sacred Portal to Stillness and Self-Realisation

By Swamiji Umasankar

Asana (posture) is not just about striking a pose; it is a transformative gateway leading to the heart of yoga. It inspires us to embrace stillness, cultivate discipline, and harmonise our body, mind, and soul with the Divine.

In the silence of a steady posture, we release the tight grip of our limited, ego-driven identity and dissolve into the infinite vastness of the soul. True stillness is Brahman—the Infinite itself. Only by surrendering the small “self” can we merge with the boundless essence of existence and know our true self (Atma Darshan).

Through the practice of yoga, we embark on a profound journey towards self-realisation. In this sacred odyssey, Asana evolves into a divine dance of surrender, aligning us with the cosmic rhythm that breathes life into all existence.

May you be blessed with vibrant health, deep peace, limitless love, and the radiant wisdom of the Self. Let us all shine brightly, beautiful souls, as we walk this path of self-discovery together!

Om Anand Om!

The Five Brothers of the Outer World (The Kauravas of the Mind)

The following text is a refined adaptation of a play performed by children in Mumbai and written by Meena Bindal

Far beyond the soul, five dark brothers roam.

Born not of love, but of illusion, they are the Devils of the Outer World.

Their voices are soft, their damage a deepening void.

First is Comparison, Duryodhana’s envy reborn.

Dressed sharp, he holds a warped mirror, hiding your true face.

“Look at them,” he whispers, “smarter, happier, more loved.”

He shakes your self-worth like a tree in a storm, leaving doubt’s bitter roots.

Second is Confusion, Shakuni’s cunning dice.

Wordless, he clouds the mind—left blends with right, truth with doubt.

Choices loom like unseen cliffs, purpose fades in his fog.

Third is Criticism, Duhshasana’s cruelty cloaked.

He waits for silence, speaking in the dark:

“You failed again.” “They laugh.” “You’re not enough.”

Sleep flees, peace shatters, a weight crushes the chest.

Fourth storms Crazy, Karna’s fury unleashed.

He kicks open the door, dragging anger, irritation, anxiety, and sadness’s grey veil.

Stillness vanishes. Small sparks ignite wildfires. Every thought is a trap.

And when all lies broken, Chaos, Dushala’s despair, steps in.

He sits amid the ruins, murmuring, “You are nothing. Broken. Unloved.”

And the tragedy—we believe.

In that belief, we make a silent mistake, handing them the keys:

To dreams, friendships, peace, health.

We watch our treasures burn, blaming ourselves, blind to the match they struck.

These are the Kauravas of the Mind, sworn to devour light.

The Inner Garden (The Pandavas Within)

But deep within, beyond the noise, blooms a garden—quiet, sacred, alive.

Here dwell five true brothers, the Pandavas of the Heart, guardians of my light.

First is Patience, Yudhishthira’s truth incarnate.

Calmly, he speaks: “Breathe. Trust. Time carves the way.”

His steady hand holds the heart against fear’s rush.

Second is Punctuality, Arjuna’s precision alive.

Alert, he taps his watch: “Now is the moment. Act.”

His rhythm aligns my steps with time’s sacred pulse.

Third is Perfection, Bhima’s strength refined.

Focused, never careless, he urges, “Do your best. Honour every detail.”

He turns effort into art, sharp and true.

Fourth is Purification, Nakula’s grace reborn.

He sweeps through the soul, a cleansing tide washing away guilt and shame.

“Let go,” he says, firm yet kind, “and rise renewed.”

His clarity restores the spirit’s light.

Fifth is Pleasantness, Sahadeva’s wisdom in joy.

His quiet smile weaves warmth, his laughter like blossoms on the breeze.

“Be kind,” he hums, “cherish the small.”

He fills the garden with gentle strength.

But an intruder lurks—Laziness, the mind’s Kurukshetra trial.

He slips in, whispering, “Later. Or never.”

Punctuality fades. Patience frays. Perfection dulls. Purification’s tide ebbs. Pleasantness grows faint.

The garden withers, its light choked by shadows, and the Devils’ whispers creep back: “You’re not enough.”

But I’ve learned: vigilance is my spear.

When I call my Pandavas—Patience, Punctuality, Perfection, Purification, Pleasantness—they rise.

Patience steadies, Punctuality aligns, Perfection sharpens, Purification cleanses, Pleasantness laughs anew.

The garden blazes, but I know: the battle never ends.

I must guard the gate, always, to hold my light against the dark.

These are my Pandavas, warriors of light, eternal within.

(Daily purification, practised in spiritual contexts like Sunyoga, involves cleansing oneself of negative karma and obscurations to enhance spiritual progress and well-being.)
